Coastal Cleanup Day! September 8, 2010
Hey everyone! Sorry it’s taken a while to post something new, but I’ve been going crazy with the beginning of the school year. Don’t forget it’s Saturday, September 25th. Let me tell you a bit more about how BAI will participate:
-Hopefully all of you will volunteer, along with your parents and friends.
-All volunteers will be wearing our beautiful BAI Cleanup Commemorative T-Shirts.
-While you’re at the cleanup, take photos of yourself and your party! Each photo will be put into a raffle at school, and the winning student will receive a great prize (that I will announce very shortly!).
-After the cleanup, you can go to one of the free workshops that will be happening, such as the Sand Castle Contest!
-After all the fun games, there will also be a Kite-making and flying workshop! Here you’ll be making kites out of 100% recycled material!
-For those of you still full of energy, there will be a closing concert at 5:00 p.m. (at a different location).
Don’t forget, the classroom that sells the most T-Shirts will also get a great prize!
World No Tobacco Day! May 31, 2010
Every year on May 31st the world celebrates No Tobacco Day. This celebration was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987. Its purpose is to encourage people to avoid tobacco, at least for this 24-hour period. The WHO wants to warn people of the dangers of tobacco consumption. Tobacco is responsible for 5.4 million deaths every year globally. That’s more than HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis combined. Please, if you or someone you know smokes, encourage them to stop. Social smoking is not an excuse, because social cancer will kill you just as easily as regular cancer.
